Biography
Hello! My name is Patrick and I'm a first-year Masters student at the University of Calgary. My research interests include the United States in the 19th century, specifically the American Civil War, the American-Indian Wars, and borderlands history.
Projects
In my ongoing masters research, I am looking at the Dakota War and its fallout, as the expanding American and British Empires converged on the traditional Dakota homeland. In this, four distinct sovereignties collided, the American, British, Dakota, and the Hudson's Bay Company. I hope to understand what this says about 19th-century policies regarding Indian removal and shed light on problems the reservation system encounters today.
