Biography
I practiced as a Registered Speech-Language Pathologist for Alberta Health Services from 2002-2011 and maintained certification with both the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA) and Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology Canada (SAC) during that time.
Research
Areas of Research
Lorraine Reggin practiced as a speech-language pathologist for nine years in Calgary area schools. She earned her PhD with research focusing on how children understand abstract language concepts that cannot be seen, touched, or heard. Lorraine also spearheaded a partner-engaged research project examining the role of community-based interventions in linking language development with literacy skills.
In her current role, Lorraine specializes in community-engaged research and knowledge mobilization. Knowledge mobilization—also known as knowledge transfer, translation, exchange, and management—involves connecting academic research with societal needs to inform policy, enhance practices, and contribute to public understanding. Lorraine works at the Owerko Centre, where she mobilizes knowledge on topics such as language and literacy, neurodevelopment, neurodevelopmental disorders, and child mental health, ensuring that academic insights lead to tangible real-world impacts.
