Biography

Kristian Belliveau is a PhD student in the history department at the University of Calgary, where he studies post-Confederation Canadian history with a particular focus on war and society, specifically including the First and Second World Wars. His secondary area of study focuses on U.S. foreign and domestic policy during the twentieth century, including military and political history. His planned dissertation will expand his MA work by discussing the impacts of the Geneva Convention and relief organizations on the experiences of German prisoners of war in Alberta's four internment camps during the Second World War. Kristian works with Dr. David B. Marshall and Dr. Paul Chastko in the history department and hopes to see where his academic career will take him. He completed two bachelor's degrees in History in 2021 and in Education in 2023 with a specialization in secondary social studies teaching at the University of Calgary, and has also completed a Master's degree in History at the UofC in August 2024. Outside of school, Kristian coaches high performance volleyball with the Junior Dinos Women's Volleyball Club.
