Biography

Dr. Kara Sealock is a tenured, associate professor (teaching) who joined the Faculty of Nursing, University of Calgary in 2009 as a sessional clinical educator. Dr. Sealock completed her Bachelor of Nursing ('00), Masters in Education ('12), and a Doctorate in Education ('19) with a focus in adult education. She has extensive experience teaching students from years 1 to 4 in both clinical and theory. Dr. Sealock is passionate about pathophysiology, assessment, and pharmacology content addressing populations across the lifespan, supporting students as they transition from student to practitioner, and student success on NCLEX-RN and Next Generation Nursing. She brings to the educator role strong clinical nursing experience in adult critical care (ICU/CCU), medical-surgical, gerontology, and clinical research (cardiovascular and endocrinology). She has presented at the local, provincial, national, and international level. Dr. Sealock is also one of the co-authors of Lilley’s Pharmacology for Canadian Health Care Practice.

Dr. Sealock’s research interests include adult learning with specific attention to cognitive levels of learning in clinical and theoretical environments, student success on NCLEX-RN and faculty development, clinical judgment, relational inquiry, and empathy.
