Areas of Research

Community-based Art

My research interests centre around the role that community-based arts can play in the development and maintenance of communities. This work includes inquiries into cultural diversity and inclusivity, urban development and decolonization of the institutions art, including formal and informal curricula and the functions of art museums and galleries.

My current focus is the developmental needs of professional artists in late adulthood. The goal of this research is create a rich description of the emotional, social, cognitive and physical needs of artists in late adulthood in order to support these artists' continued engagement in creative production.

Projects

Creative Across the Lifespan: Supporting Professional Artists in Late Adulthood

The purpose of this project is to create a rich description of the emotional, social, cognitive and physical needs of professional artists during late adulthood to understand the supports these artists need to remain creatively and professionally active as long as possible.


TBT Gallery: Supporting Jewish Artist in Calgary

Co-founder Shelley Werner and I opened TBT Gallery at Temple B'nai Tikvah early May, 2022. This gallery space is dedicated to the promotion of professional Jewish art in Calgary. Four exhibiitons, of three months duration each, are held at the gallery. Interested artists may contact me with proposals for exhibitions.


B'midbar: Living in the Wilderness

This research creation explores the experience of living within the liminal spaces created by historical and intergenerational trauma and by marginalization through a series of mixed media works. The work investigates ways that these spaces of pain, fear and unrest can become fecund places for growth and healing.
