Biography
Dave Patterson earned both his Bachelor of Nursing and Master of Nursing degrees from the University of Calgary. His graduate work focused on nursing education through interprofessional education simulations, culminating in his certification as a Canadian Certified Simulation Nurse Educator.
Since 2011, Dave has been a dedicated faculty member within the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Nursing. He currently holds the position of Assistant Professor (Teaching), following a distinguished clinical career that included roles as a Community Health Educator with the Calgary Zone Perinatal Education Program and as a Level II NICU Nurse with Alberta Health Services.
Dave’s commitment to advancing compassionate, family-centred care was deepened through his work with students in congregate living environments, where he developed a strong interest in supporting individuals living with dementia and their families. His collaborative approach emphasizes respectful engagement among students, staff, and care partners.
Throughout his tenure, Dave has taught across all levels of the undergraduate nursing curriculum. His current academic focus centers on supporting students as they transition into professional nursing practice.
