Biography

Tina Leard is a researcher and educator with extensive experience in designing human-computer interaction for learning and performance. She is keenly interested in the evolution of communication within society and bi-multilingual identities. Areas of practice include research, design, implementation, and evaluation of interactions in digital contexts to facilitate communication and regulation. Through linguistic and psychological lenses, she aims to apply theory to practice to explore interaction and feedback loops within systems for learning and knowledge sharing. With experience applying mixed methods research in academic and industry settings, she is intrigued by emerging applications of machine learning for bi-multilingual text.

Conducted research connected to the early understanding of learning analytics at Concordia University, analyzing human-computer interaction to represent self-regulated learning in digital context through visualization.

Contributed to the design of the first-known comprehensive reporting tool interface for a learning management system at Air Canada, implementing over 60 reports through research and innovation.

Contributed to the design of one of the first integrative content builders for a learning management system at Air Canada, applying principles of sociolinguistics across airport microcultures to define metadata standards for reusable learning objects.

Acted as the primary functional specialist at Bombardier Aerospace on the Microsoft SharePoint pilot and integration with SAP, strategizing for global knowledge management and conducting user experience research to strive for excellence.

Designed a pedagogical framework for data literacy integrating math reasoning, critical thinking, and coding and developed open education resources in Jupyter for the Callysto project funded by the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences.

Led the design of and defined the curriculum for French 1 and French 2 online asynchronous courses simulating interaction based on second language pedagogy, as part of Ontario’s virtual learning strategy and eCampus Ontario’s open education resources.
