Biography
Dr. Tom Stelfox is an adjunct professor in the Department of Critical Care Medicine. He received his MD from the University of Alberta, completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Toronto, earned a Ph.D. in health care policy at Harvard University and did a critical care fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He served as joint clinical and academic head of the Department of Critical Care Medicine, University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services and is the past Scientific Director of the O’Brien Institute for Public Health, University of Calgary. His research focuses on the application of health-services research methods to improve the quality of health-care delivery to critically ill patients.

Areas of Research
His research focuses on the application of health-services research methods to improve the quality of health-care delivery to critically ill patients. His research activities include developing, implementing and evaluating strategies to improve the translation of scientific evidence into clinical practice. He has received more than $25 million in funding as a principal or co-principal applicant and more than $80 million in network and training grants as a co-applicant. He has over 400 peer-reviewed publications that have been cited more than 14,000 times. His work has directly influenced policy and practice.
