Children with medical complexity (CMC) are a growing population within pediatrics, presenting unique challenges to health care providers, communities and society in general. CMC typically experience multisystem chronic disease, neurodevelopmental disabilities, high health care utilization and often technology dependence. These children have diverse underlying diagnoses, many of which have no specific targeted treatments or cure-based therapy available. In this context, the approach to clinical care and research shifts towards patient-oriented outcomes such as quality of life, symptom burden and caregiver wellness.
