Background

Biography

I am an Otolaryngologist – Head and Neck Surgery (FRCS, University of Ottawa) with advanced training in Head and Neck Oncologic and Reconstructive Surgery (University of Toronto). During my 12 years at Western University I was Residency Program Director. I have been an Assoc. Prof. at the University of Calgary since 2003. My roles included initiating the UofC Otolaryngology – Head and neck Surgery resident training program, being the first Program Director, serving as the Section Chief of Otolaryngology (2008 – 2018), Vice-Chair of the RCPS Oto-HNS Specialty Committee (2008 – 2014) and Chair (2014 – 2021). I am currently the President of the AMA Section of Oto-HNS (2021 – 2023) and the acting Executive Director of the Ohlson Research Initiative.

Areas of Research

Area of Focus
  • Functional Outcomes following treatment for Head and Neck Cancer
Summary of Research

Research interests are related to head and neck cancer. Specifically, I have focused on functional outcomes following treatment for H&N cancer, clinical pathways for H&N surgery, application of the Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) process to head and neck surgery, and prognostic markers and individualized treatment in H&N cancer. I am an active collaborator in multi-centre studies through the national Collaborative Research Initiative (H&N Cancer).
