GeoSentinel Surveillance Program

Dr. Kuhn established Calgary as a surveillance site for an international group that studies imported infections in travellers and migrants through both surveillance and research activities in 2012. GeoSentinel is comprised of 71 sites in 29 countries around the globe. Dr. Kuhn has focussed on tropical infections affecting children and youth, as well as conditions impacting migrating populations. She is currently the site co-director.

Professionals Engaging with Purpose Program (PEPP)

PEPP grew out of Dr. Kuhn's evolving interest in promotion of faculty vitality through engagement in meaningful work. This led to a sabbatical from which a theoretical framework was constructed for an approach to faculty development for which meaningful work was a foundation. She formed and led a PEPP Council and Network along with colleague Dr. Chantelle Barnard which conducted a needs assessment in the Department of Pediatrics from which a model was constructed. This model is centred on the individual faculty member to create a specific development plan, regardless of career stage or path that can be supported by local resources and colleagues as well as through identification of and access to additional training opportunities in the larger institution and beyond. The Department is rolling out a core curriculum in 2025 that is anchored by reflective career planning workshops and supported by an emerging mentorship program, with linkages to the specific career-path curricular resources available through the Office of Faculty Development at the Cumming School of Medicine and elsewhere. See Professionals Engaging with Purpose Program (PEPP) | Cumming School of Medicine | University of Calgary to for more information.
