Biography
I am a Cardiac Electrophysiologist and Associate Professor of Cardiac Sciences and Community Health Sciences at the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine.
My clinical practise is devoted to inpatient, outpatient, and interventional care of patients with arrhythmias, with a particular focus on atrial fibrillation management.
My research program spans clinical and health services research domains, focusing on the prevention and treatment of common, high-impact cardiovascular diseases. I am currently the PI for the APPROACH initiative.
I am also passionate about planetary health, the emerging transdisciplinary field that recognizes the fundamental links between nature and human health. In 2024, Dr Sonja Wicklum and I were named as the inaugural Directors of Planetary Health at the Cumming School of Medicine, within the Health Equity and Systems Transformation portfolio. We are connecting clinicians, educators, researchers and policymakers to accelerate action on critical planetary health issues.

Areas of Research
My team uses data from the APPROACH cardiac registry and linked provincial data holdings to explore important issues in the diagnois, treatment, and prognosis of common cardiac conditions, including acute coronary syndromes, atrial fibrillation, and heart failure.
I have worked on the design, development and evaluation of electornic tools to improve clinical decision-making, including a patient decision aid for atrial fibrillation, and individualized patient reported outcome measure reports for patients with coronary heart disease.
