Educational Background

PhD Geological and Environmental Sciences, Stanford University, 2006

MSc Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, University of Alberta, 1999

Research

Areas of Research

Sedimentary Systems, Clastic Sedimentology, Basin Analysis

My research group focuses on sedimentary systems, with an emphasis on using siliciclastic sedimentology and stratigraphy to solve a variety of problems, ranging from the bed- to basin- scale. Areas of current interest include: (1) Foreland and forearc basin evolution, geochronology, and stratigraphic architecture, with an emphasis on the Alberta Foreland Basin, the Magallanes Basin of Chile, and the Nanaimo forearc basin of western British Columbia. (2) Deep-water channel sedimentary processes and products from modern seafloor and deep-time settings. (3) Paleoenvironmental reconstructions of early hominid landscapes at Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania. (4) Fluvial meander belt geomorphology and stratigraphic architecture. We regularly apply our work for the characterization and prediction of subsurface geology.
