Biography

Welcome! I am a PhD candidate in Biostatistics at the University of Calgary, with appointments in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and the Department of Community Health Sciences. My research focuses on statistical and computational methods for infectious disease modeling, with particular interest in understanding how human behavioural responses to disease incidence can influence the spread and dynamics of epidemics.

My current research, under the supervision of Dr. Rob Deardon, focuses on population-level SIR models that incorporate behavioural responses through alarm functions. These models allow transmission to change as individuals and populations respond to increasing or decreasing disease incidence. I am particularly interested in developing and evaluating statistical methods for these models and applying them to real-world infectious disease data, including COVID-19 and influenza. My broader methodological interests include Bayesian inference, statistical modeling, computational statistics, and epidemic forecasting.

Before starting my PhD, I was a Lecturer and Assistant Professor in Statistics at Noakhali Science and Technology University in Bangladesh and worked as an applied statistician in public health. During this time, I was involved in several interdisciplinary research projects spanning nutrition, maternal health, mental health, and dengue. These experiences strengthened my interest in applying statistical methodology to real-world public health problems and collaborating with researchers from diverse disciplines.

One of the aspects of biostatistics that I value most is the opportunity to work across disciplines and use statistical methods to address meaningful questions in public health. My long-term goal is to develop statistical methodology that can help improve our understanding of infectious diseases and support evidence-based public health decision-making.

In my personal life, my mother holds a very special place in my heart. Moreover, I have always had a deep affection for every child in the world. I believe that kindness and happiness are meant to be shared. My motto is simple: “Be kind, keep smiling, and spread happiness.”
