Biography

Siu Ming Kwok is a full professor in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary and is currently seconded as Associate Director of the School of Public Policy, where he provides visionary leadership and oversees daily operations. With more than 40 years of experience as a registered social worker, academic, researcher, and regulator, he brings a unique perspective shaped by his upbringing in Hong Kong and exposure to both Western and Eastern worldviews.

Dr. Kwok’s academic and professional leadership has earned meaningful recognition. In 2025, he received Alberta’s Immigrant Impact Award (Career & Academic Contributions). That same year, the International Federation of Social Workers appointed him to a four-year term as a representative to the United Nations Commission in New York Headquarters.

At the University of Calgary, he previously served as Associate Dean (Undergraduate Programs) and Associate Dean (Southern Alberta Region) in the Faculty of Social Work. Beyond the university, he held leadership roles as President of the Alberta College of Social Workers, President of the Canadian Council of Social Work Regulators, CCSWR representative to the Association of Social Work Boards in the United States, and a member of the Commission on Accreditation of the Canadian Association of Social Work Education.
