Areas of Research
Cardiac and skeletal muscle mechanics; titin
Patellofemoral joint mechanics; knee joint pain; quadriceps muscle imbalance.
Although patellofemoral pain or PFP is one of the most frequent musculoskeletal disorders, its etiology still remains uncertain. One generally accepted speculation is that quadriceps muscle weakness might be a factor developing PFP. It is recognized that the muscle weakness changes mechanical properties in the patellofemoral joint (PFJ), and this changed mechanics might affect degeneration of PFJ. However, it has not been directly investigated. Therefore, Dr. Han is investigating the relationship between quadriceps muscle weakness and mechanical changes to explain the mechanism of PFP. Her research will broaden current understanding in this field.
