Areas of Research
As a clinical researcher, I have a strong interest in complex reproductive anomalies and am currently undertaking a prospective (moving forward) project looking at needs of patients regarding vaginal dilation before and after surgical vagina creation. We are also working closely with the Pediatric Surgeons on streamlining care of patients with anorectal malformations as they often have associated reproductive anomalies. Lastly, we as a pediatric and adolescent gynecology team are working very hard on improving fertility preservation options for both pubertal and pre-pubertal assigned female at birth patients who are undergoing gonadotoxic therapy (that will affect potential future fertility) for cancer or other reasons. Finally, we have partnered with the medical school to enhance vulvar anatomy knowledge for all medical trainees in an effort to normalize normal anatomy in all patients including patients of colour. Our team strives to improve knowledge translation by regularly publishing short 5 things to know about common pediatric and adolescent gynecology topics for all physicians read in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.
