Biography
Sanjana Solomon is a Master of Science student in Kinesiology at the University of Calgary. Through the MOMENTUM study in the Reimer Nutrition Lab, her graduate research examines women's health, with a particular focus on the relationship between gastrointestinal symptoms, gut microbiota, and intestinal permeability across the menopause trajectory. As a recipient of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Canada Graduate Research Scholarship, she is passionate about advancing women's health research and addressing gaps in the understanding of gastrointestinal health during menopause.
During her undergraduate studies at the University of Calgary, Sanjana was involved in research in the Reimer Nutrition Lab investigating the effects of maternal diet during lactation on offspring metabolism and maternal milk microbiota. This experience provided her with a foundation in nutritional research and further developed her interest in gastrointestinal health.
Research
Areas of Research
My research focuses on advancing understanding of women's health across the lifespan, particularly menopause and the physiological changes associated with the menopausal transition. Through my involvement in the MOMENTUM study at the University of Calgary, I am interested in exploring how hormonal changes influence gastrointestinal symptoms, health outcomes, and overall well-being, while addressing gaps in women's health research.
Exploring the relationship between nutrition, dietary patterns, and metabolic health across the lifespan, with particular interest in maternal nutrition, dietary fibre, and the influence of maternal dietary factors on offspring development and metabolic outcomes.
Interested in understanding the complex interactions between the gut microbiome, gastrointestinal function, and intestinal barrier integrity. Particular areas of interest include gut microbial composition, intestinal permeability, and the role of the gut environment in influencing overall health.
