Background

Biography

Dr. Safiya Karim is a clinical assistant professor and medical oncologist at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre at the University of Calgary. She holds an MD from the University of Calgary and completed her medical oncology residency at the University of Toronto. She also completed a fellowship in health services research at Queen’s University as well as a Masters degree in Health Care Quality and Patient Safety. Her clinical focus is in gastrointestinal and genitourinary cancers.

Summary of Research

Dr. Safiya Karim has publications in several high ranking journals in the areas of health services and quality improvement. She was recently awarded a grant to study the diagnostic interval for patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in Alberta by the Oncology Research Office. She has also been awarded a grant for a quality improvement initiative on Serious Illness Conversation implementation in patients with advanced cancer through the Calgary Zone Quality Council.
