Background

Biography

After graduating from Medicine (Class of 1992) and completing residency training in Family Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan (1994), he practiced primary care in Northern Saskatchewan for 2 years. In 1996, he moved to Boston, MA, USA for residency training in Diagnostic Radiology at Boston University School of Medicine followed by a Musculoskeletal Imaging Fellowship at the New England Baptist Hospital/New England Baptist Bone and Joint Institute and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Walker has been providing sub-specialty diagnostic musculoskeletal imaging services in the Calgary Zone since returning to Canada and Calgary, AB in July 2001. He has served in several administrative roles over the past 20 years, including Clinical and Academic Chair, Department of Radiology, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary and Calgary Zone, Alberta Health Services from July 2016 to June 2021. His primary research interests include multi-modal imaging of sports-related injuries and joint trauma, as well as imaging appropriateness and quality improvement, and he actively collaborates with colleagues from the Department of Orthopaedics, members of the McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health and Image Scientists at the University of Calgary. He was a consultant radiologist for the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships held in Alberta, Canada in 2012 and a volunteer Musculoskeletal Radiologist at the Vancouver Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games held in Vancouver, BC, Canada in 2010.
