Areas of Research

Interactions of microbes with metals

Research into Metallo-antimicrobials is a field aiming to address the antibiotic resistance era.  Research here explores various metal formulations from simple metal salts to metal complexes and nanomaterials.  My group investigates the mechanisms of tolerance and sensitivity as well as resistance to various metals to environmental and medically important microbes.

Biotechnology of biogenic nanomaterial

Here we use microbes for the eco-friendly synthesis of metal and metalloid-based nanomaterials.

Microbial biofilms

Here we are interested in mechanisms of resistance towards antimicrobials, particularly metals and nanomaterials.  We also develop novel biocides to control biofilms in biofouling and microbially influenced corrosion of steel, copper and bronze.

Projects

Developing novel antimicrobials.

We are exploring synergies between antiseptics/antibiotics/natural compounds with metal ions.

Biogenic quantum dots

Using microorganisms to synthesize hetero atom Selenium and tellurium-based nanomaterials.
