Dr. Rahul Chanchlani

My research program focuses on improving the long-term health of children with kidney disease and high blood pressure. I study how kidney injury and hypertension begin in childhood, how they affect health later in life, and how we can identify children at greatest risk before serious complications develop.
My work combines large population-based datasets, clinical studies, pragmatic clinical trials, and implementation science to answer questions that directly affect patient care. A major focus is childhood hypertension—understanding its causes and long-term cardiovascular an and kidney consequences, developing better approaches to risk prediction and diagnosis, and testing practical strategies to improve how blood pressure is measured, recognized, and managed in routine clinical care. I also study the long-term outcomes of acute kidney injury in children and approaches to improve follow-up and prevention.
Working with patients, families, clinicians, health systems, and researchers across Canada and internationally, my goal is to translate evidence into practical and scalable improvements in care. Ultimately, I aim to prevent kidney and cardiovascular disease by identifying risk earlier and improving care throughout childhood and adolescence.
