Biography

Dr. Rachel Redick is a 2020 alumna of the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine with a steadfast commitment to advancing welfare in laboratory animal medicine. Throughout her academic journey, Dr. Redick engaged in research endeavors encompassing both plant and animal sciences, acquiring invaluable experience in various laboratory settings. Preceding her enrollment at UCVM, she earned a BSc. (Hons) in Plant Biology in 2017.

Following her graduation, Dr. Redick undertook roles with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, where she conducted inspections at multiple abattoirs across southern Alberta and Manitoba, examining animal carcasses for adherence to food safety standards and conducting rigorous tests to detect chemical residues in meat products. Subsequently, she then transitioned to working at the Calgary International Airport, assuming responsibilities in animal imports and exports, ensuring compliance with regulatory protocols for species entering and departing the country. Dr. Redick also played a key role in the avian influenza outbreak response with the CFIA, leading surveillance and diagnostic efforts across western Canada.

In 2022, Dr. Redick joined the University of Calgary as an Assistant University Veterinarian, fostering collaborative research endeavors with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, with a primary focus on pharmacokinetics.
