Research interests: Canadian politics, electoral politics, political parties, message discipline, voting behaviour, urban-rural divides, regionalism, municipal elections, municipal political parties
Quinn is a thesis-based MA student. She graduated first in her class from the University of Winnipeg with a Bachelors of Honours in Political Science. She hopes to build upon her honours thesis by studying the effects of party and message discipline, imposed by party leaders and staff, on parliamentary behaviour and voting practices in Canadian federal and provincial caucuses. She is particularly interested in the dichotomy of party discipline as a leadership tool: effective for coordinating large caucuses and maintaining party unity, yet detrimental for accurate citizen representation. Using a mixed methods approach, she examines the efficacy of two normative methods used to optimize party unity within caucuses: caucus cohesion and disciplinary action, maintaining an emphasis on their shared importance for parliamentary and caucus organization.
