Biography

I am a dedicated and versatile educator, artist, and community builder, with over two decades of experience in community development work, 15+ years in post-secondary institutions, numerous contracts as a Teaching Assistant and Guest Lecturer, and have taught as a Sessional Instructor for the University of Calgary, Mount Royal University, and Alberta University of the Arts. I am especially adept at bringing a passion for experiential learning into all classroom environments.

My published work explores spaces between experimental form and subject representation, and has been published in NōD Magazine, filling Station Magazine, Utopian Studies: The Journal of the Society for Utopian Studies, The Anti-Languorous Project, Honey Pot Literary Miscellany (Journal), and more. I am very honoured that both my scholarship and teaching have been nominated for, and awarded, numerous accolades. Most notably, I was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Master’s Scholarship and Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship (SSHRC), Recently, I was nominated for the UofC Teaching Award for Sessional Instructors, and Adjunct Faculty status (UofC).

My 2024 SSHRC-funded doctoral dissertation, “Refractions: Queer History Cast Through Experimental Poetry,” navigated Calgary’s queer history through experimental poetry, exploring how atemporal crossings weave between past, present, and a poetics of queer futurity. My PhD Fields of Study included Pedagogy in Creative Writing, Poetry and the Novel, Queer Theory and Queer creative practice, and Indigenous Studies and Indigenous creative practice. Prior to my PhD, I studied photography at the Alberta College of Art + Design (now AUArts).

I am especially interested in the topics of gender & sexuality studies, women's studies, poetry & literary studies, intersectionality, antiracism, anticolonialism, decolonization, arts & activism through creative praxis, and cross-disciplinary considerations that account for diverse interests and backgrounds of students who thrive in active learning.
