Biography
Dr. Nyasha Nyereyemhuka is an Assistant Professor of K-12 School leadership and governance at the Werklund School of Education. Dr. Nyereyemhuka joined Werklund as a previous SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow from Queen’s University’s Faculty of Education. Her writing employs qualitative approaches to K-12 research and frequently interrogates how the constructs of race-and-gender inform school leaders' preparation, professional identities, well-being, policy enactment, and sensemaking. Upholding a commitment to mobilizing community-based research and equity-focused scholarship, her co-authored book chapters and journal articles have appeared in the Canadian Journal of Educational Administration and Policy, the International Journal of Leadership in Education, and Routledge editions. Further, her research contributions have been nationally recognized and honoured as a recipient of national, provincial, and university-level awards from The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, the Government of Ontario, and Western University, respectively.
Dr. Nyereyemhuka possess a wealth of teaching experience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels of higher education and has progressively held leadership positions at the departmental, university, and community levels. Notably, her editorial skills were recognized when she served as a guest co-editor for the Canadian Journal of Educational Administration and Policy. Similar to her teaching, her leadership and service endeavours reflect a keen interest in ensuring that research is culturally responsive to the people and communities it involves.

Projects
This study interrogates the ways in which Alberta’s K-12 school leaders build school capacity for supporting newcomer and refugee students’ success.
This project examines how the Principal Qualification Program supports candidates' understanding of race, racism, and their own racial identity as it pertains to leading schools in Ontario's K-12 education system.
