Biography

Neha Bhatia is a Ph.D. candidate in Transcultural Studies at the University of Calgary, Canada. Her research and teaching interests are interdisciplinary including post-colonial studies, studies of film and media industries, film festival studies, Indian independent cinema, transnational cinema and South Asian Area Studies. Besides presenting at several international conferences, she has co-organized graduate forums, talks and specialized panels in film, media and culture studies. She is currently researching the global turn in India’s independent cinema under the supervision of Dr. Charles Tepperman and Dr. Devika Vijayan. She has published in specialized journals and obtained funding for her research through several organizations including the prestigious Alberta Graduate Excellence Scholarship.

Besides her academic work, she also works to amplify the voices of Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour through digital projects in Calgary. Through an Erasmus Mundus scholarship, she earned a Master's degree in Crossways in Cultural Narratives from three European universities: University of Sheffield, Université de Perpignan and Universidad de Santiago de Compostela.
