Nabil Royez

Biography

Nabil Royez is a Senior Consultant in the Office of the Vice President (Finance and Services) and Chief Financial Officer at the University of Calgary, bringing an interdisciplinary background across science, innovation, entrepreneurship, governance, and community leadership. In his current role, he supports strategic and operational priorities across the University, with a growing focus on strengthening pathways that connect innovation, commercialization, and institutional strategy.

Prior to this role, Nabil completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the Cumming School of Medicine, where his interdisciplinary research focused on developing a near patient molecular diagnostics platform and advancing its translation from the lab toward real world application and commercialization. His work brought together expertise across biomedical science, engineering, healthcare, and entrepreneurship, shaping his interest in how research and innovation can move beyond discovery toward meaningful impact.

Alongside his doctoral work, Nabil served as President of the Foothills Graduate Association (FGA) and as a Governor on the University of Calgary Board of Governors, representing graduate students while contributing to broader institutional discussions and decision making. He is also the 2024 recipient of the Cannon Lachapelle Award in Entrepreneurial Thinking, recognizing his work and contributions in innovation and entrepreneurship. These experiences gave him a unique perspective on balancing community needs with organizational priorities, fiscal responsibility, and the long term interests of the University.

Nabil has also led cross faculty initiatives in mental health, wellness, student engagement, and community building, and has represented UCalgary at innovation forums and industry showcases. He is the founder of Noble Mind Care, a mental health advocacy platform focused on awareness, support, and community wellbeing.

Across these experiences, Nabil has developed a perspective that connects research, innovation, commercialization, governance, strategy, and community impact. He now brings that experience into his work within Finance and Services while continuing to build his expertise in the strategic, operational, and commercial dimensions of the University.
