Biography

Dr. Mohammad Ziaul Islam Chowdhury (Zia) is a senior analyst at Alberta Health Services. Following his PhD in community health sciences with a focus on health services research from the University of Calgary, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Calgary's Department of Psychiatry under the direction of Prof. Dallas Seitz. In his role as the postdoctoral fellow, he was involved with different projects related to dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, including creating a dementia risk index for Albertans based on 1.2 million administrative healthcare data points (DAD, NACRS, claims, and PIN), using statistical algorithms to better understand the risk of dementia and identify individuals and populations at greatest risk. In his current role, Zia is working on projects related to Alberta’s administrative health data, providing methodological and analytical support for the various aspects of the projects that utilize Alberta’s administrative health data for research purposes. Zia is also a trained biostatistician with over a decade of academic and industry experience developing new research ideas and seeing them through to completion. He has a strong foundation in health research methodology, advanced analytical methodology that includes both statistical and machine learning algorithms, and methods for evidence generation and synthesis, including systematic reviews and meta-analysis.
