Biography

Mohamad Hemadi is a graduate student in the Master of Management program at the University of Calgary. His academic background spans biochemistry, applied anatomical sciences education, ethics, and the humanities.

His research interests focus on the role of the humanities in medical education, epistemology in healthcare, and the evaluation of complex, non-technical forms of learning. He is particularly interested in how educational, clinical, and institutional systems assess knowledge, care, and professional formation. Mohamad’s work aims to bridge medicine, education, and organizational thinking to support more reflective, ethically grounded healthcare systems.

In parallel with his academic work, Mohamad develops an abstract expressionist practice grounded in his broader epistemic and philosophical frameworks. His artwork functions as a site of inquiry, what he conceptualizes as Visual Epistemopoiesis, where knowledge emerges through gesture, materiality, and pre-linguistic expression rather than formal analytic structures. His paintings explore rupture, tension, and transformation, often engaging themes of fragmentation, witnessing, and the reconstruction of meaning beyond reductive interpretation.

His diptych Between Compression and Breath, which received 1st prize at the Creating Space 16 conference, exemplifies this approach by examining the interplay between constraint and release, density and emergence. The work reflects his ongoing commitment to creating spaces where ambiguity, vulnerability, and complexity can be held without coercion. The work can be viewed by clicking this link
