Dr. Schlegelmilch is an early career pediatric emergency medicine physician and researcher. He has an educational background in public health, general pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine and has research experience in health economics, population health in developing countries, and in observational and clinical trials in pediatric pain and procedural sedation.

His current work is with adolescents who are experiencing mental health emergencies, namely suicidal thinking, and he is interested in investigating the use of ketamine therapy for the rapid treatment of suicidal thinking in the pediatric emergency department. His career goals are to study the epidemiology of adolescent suicidality, investigate medications that may rapidly treat suicidality in the pediatric emergency department and explore the relationship between neurodevelopmental disorders and pediatric mental health emergencies.
