Biography

Makda is a doctoral student in Political Science at the University of Calgary. She completed her Master of Public Policy at Simon Fraser University and is an alumna of the undergraduate Political Science program at the University of Calgary. Her research examines the political pathways, experiences, and policy priorities of racially minoritized women in Canada. Using an intersectional and mixed-method approach, her dissertation traces how structural barriers and institutional norms shape these women’s recruitment, representation, and speech in Parliament. Broadly, her work advances comparative and Canadian politics by theorizing representation from the perspectives of those historically marginalized within political institutions.
