Projects

Periodic Extended Kalman Filter to Estimate Rowing Motion Indoors Using a Wearable Ultra-wideband Ranging Positioning System
  • Developed a wearable indoor positioning system that could estimate the position of a rowing machine’s handle during the rowing motion.
  • Collected data from UWB receivers
  • Developed a periodic Extended Kalman filter to estimate the phases of the rowing stroke
  • The model was validated using a reference trajectory from a Vicon 8-camera motion capture system

Electronic Nose Development Using Low-cost Gas Sensors to Identify Aromas
  • Developed an electronic nose that can identify a beverage based on its aroma
  • Collected data from several low-cost sensors (e.g., gas, temperature) using a Raspberry Pi 3 and a Pimoroni Explorer hat.
  • Developed A K-Nearest Neighbours (KNN) algorithm in Matlab to create a classification model that was used to predict the aromas of beer and coffee
  • The model was validated using a 10-fold cross validation (k-fold)
  • A Principal Component Analysis was used as an exploratory technique to validate the model and the results
