Biography
Dr. Lorraine Venturato is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Calgary. She has extensive experience as a clinician, educator and researcher in care of older people across the full spectrum of care, with a particular focus on community and long-term care services.
Dr. Venturato joined the Faculty of Nursing in January 2014 and held the inaugural Faculty of Nursing Chair in Gerontology until March 2019. She previously held a joint position as a senior research fellow in Australia and is an advocate for partnered approaches to research, education and practice.
Dr. Venturato's passion for working with older people has led her to explore creative and innovative approaches to meeting the challenges that face older people and those that care for them. Her current research uses a variety of qualitative, participatory, and arts-based research approaches to 1) explore and enhance understanding of the lives of older adults both in community and long-term care settings, and 2) co-create service delivery and workforce development opportunities in long-term care settings.

Projects
This SSHRC funded study explores the lives of older adults living in 10 communities in Alberta and the Northwest Territories. In particular, we will explore and visually document the experiences of older adults in relation to ageing and identity in the context of home, place, and community.
This project aims to 1) to explore the link between ageing, well-being, and identity, alongside concepts of home, place, and community; 2) highlight heterogeneity (person and place) and enhance understanding of the lives of older adults across diverse settings; 3) explore the intersection of the conceptualisations of embodied and emplaced aging as it plays out in the lives, experiences, homes, and communities of older adults; and 4) make visible the often invisible lives of older adults, particularly in rural and remote communities, and give voice to what matters most to them.
