Areas of Research

Applied mechanics and biomechanics: Cartilage mechanics, Joint mechanics, Tissue mechanics, Cell mechanics, Computational mechanics, Constitutive and numerical modelling

Dr. Li's recent research is focused on the mechanics and mechanobiology of articular cartilage and human/animal knee joints, using both computational and experimental methods. He also works on numerical analysis of soil-pipe interaction and other engineering structures.
His recent research contributions include the development of a fibril-reinforced theory of articular cartilage, which has been frequently cited in the area of cartilage mechanics. He pioneered the study of fluid pressure load support in patient-specific knee joint models and creep measurement of human knees
