Biography
Before returning to academia in recent years, Dan enjoyed an extensive career as a corporate lawyer, senior business executive and serial entrepreneur.
Dan previously served as a law clerk to G.V. La Forest in the Supreme Court of Canada, an associate in a national law firm, a partner in a Calgary-based corporate law boutique, President of two junior public technology companies, an executive in a variety of multinational businesses, and co-founder of several start-up business ventures. Much of Dan's business and legal career was internationally-focused, and he has travelled more than 3 million miles to more than 80 different countries during his career.
In addition to his business activities, Dan has served in a number of pro bono capacities with various not-for-profit organizations throughout Alberta and abroad. Dan spent fifteen years as the Chairman of the Global Compassion Campaign of CrossRoads Church, with a mandate to provide funding and support for community development initiatives with partners in Rwanda, Haiti, Uganda and Sudan. Dan currently serves as Director of Haiti Arise’s Bureau d' Assistance Judiciare in Petit Goave, Haiti, and continues to serve as a volunteer with A Better World and the Saruk Centre for Leadership in central Alberta.
Dan is married to Dr. Marci Wilson and is the father of two teenage sons, Eli and Seth.
While now focused primarily on his teaching, research and administrative obligations within academia, Dan continues to advise select start-up and growth-stage companies on business and transactional legal issues.
