Biography
Kinnari Shetty is an interdisciplinary Doctoral student in Learning Sciences at the Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary, under the supervision of Dr. Man Wai Chu and working alongside industry partners. Her research sits at the intersection of engineering education, learner agency, data privacy, and AI-driven engineering environments. Additionally, her research interests encompass Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), surveillance, privacy in an AI-centric world, AI ethics, and the gender gap in engineering.
Drawing upon a global academic and industry background spanning the UK, Australia, and Canada including Master’s degrees in Engineering, Engineering Management, Project Management, alongside deep specialization in Globalization and AI Ethics, her research is informed by 13 years of technical, strategic, R&D and executive experience across Big Tech and startup ecosystems. In her current professional capacity, she works as a Consulting Applied AI/ML Scientist and Methodological Advisor with Illuminz Solutions Inc, contributes to the research and development of two stealth industry projects, and serves as a Data & Privacy Advisor on the Boards of Silicon Valley technology startups like Aurella AI.
Kinnari works as the Lab Manager (GAR) with Dr. Mengguo Jing's Lab, she was drawn to Dr. Jing’s Digital Child Lab by her fascination with developmental research and her passion for understanding how emerging technology shapes the future of children.
