Biography
Karla Mariann graduated from the University of Calgary in June 2020, having completed the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) Program with a major in Bioinformatics and a minor in Psychology. She spent one summer in the lab of Dr. Ken Lukowiak, studying the effects of multiple environmental stressors and pharmaceutical drugs on learning and memory in Lymnaea stagnalis. Afterwards, Karla Mariann conducted a couple summer research projects and her honours thesis project under the supervision of Dr. James Wasmuth -- studying gene essentiality within the metabolic network of Caenorhabditis elegans and searching for novel variation within different strains of Giardia intestinalis. Karla Mariann now works as the Database Research Assistant for the Vascular Cognitive Impairment (VCI) Research Group and as the Research Assistant for the Calgary Brain Bank.
