Biography

Justin has been a registered nurse since 2014. He is currently an Assistant Professor (tenure track) at the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Nursing, with demonstrated excellence in teaching and learning across diverse contexts, including large class theory, simulation, and practice.

Justin also holds a Master of Nursing from the University of Calgary and has completed graduate certificates in Healthcare Innovation and Design, and Leadership for Health Systems Transformation. His innovative work includes leading a project to develop an interactive video-novel series for pre-simulation orientation, enhancing student preparedness and learning outcomes.

As the Council Chair for the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA), Justin collaborates in the leadership and oversight of the regulatory body for 45,000 RNs and NPs in Alberta. His international experience includes serving as a Faculty Advisor at the University of Calgary in Qatar, where he contributed to program development, curriculum design, and cultural advocacy. His contributions were recognized with the University of Calgary International Achievement Award.

During the pandemic, Justin co-created the UCalgary Mindfulness podcast, a collaboration with the University of Calgary’s Campus Mental Health Strategy. The podcast, which focuses on self-leadership and mental health, has produced over 20 episodes, promoting mindfulness practices and enhancing the mental well-being of the university community.

In addition to his academic and professional roles, Justin is deeply committed to service work. He has served on various committees, including the Nominations and Assessment Committee for the University of Calgary Alumni Association and the Tenure and Promotion Committee for the Faculty of Nursing. Justin is also an accomplished communicator publishing on topics such as leadership, simulation-based learning, and healthcare innovation.
