Biography

Scott Reid has been a instructor at the University of Calgary since 2017. He is a set, lighting, and projection designer who, over the last 35 years, has been designing for theatre, opera, dance, and more recently, immersive experiences.  Although based in Calgary, Scott’s designs have been seen across North America.  Scott’s design work has been nominated for and received several awards across Canada. He has enjoyed designing for such diverse projects as theatre for young audiences touring shows, new plays, as well as large-scale operas and ballets.  Each show brings its own challenges, and this is what makes it interesting.

Scott earned both his BFA and MFA in design at the University of Alberta.  He has been a member of the Theatre Arts Faculty of the Banff Centre in both the Ballet and Opera programs and enjoys being a mentor to emerging designers.

Whenever he has the chance, Scott likes to travel.  He loves to see and experience new places that he can photograph and potentially incorporate into future design projects.  Inspiration can come from the moss on a rotting log in the forests of British Columbia to the railing of a villa in Venice.  Scott is an avid photographer and is often found behind a camera.
