Projects

Roaming Audiences

I worked as a research assistant for Professor Annette Hill on the Roaming Audiences project. The project examined the mobility and motility of young Southeast Asian audiences across different streaming platforms. I conducted qualitative interviews with Generation Z audiences residing in the capital cities of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and Jakarta in Indonesia. I also worked with Hill on a map-making method, where we asked participants to visualize and sketch their movements across different platforms as if they were locations on a map. We published part of our findings in a 2021 journal article titled Roamers: Audiences on the Move Across Entertainment Platforms In Southeast Asia.

Parameters of Media Engagement

I was one of two research assistants for Professor Annette Hill on the Parameters of Media Engagement project. The project provided a new conceptual model for analyzing media engagement, situating it along the parameters of media contexts, motivations, modalities, intensities, and consequences. I conducted qualitative interviews with Millennial Malaysians of Chinese descent about how they engaged with news in the Southeast Asian country. My research contributions and graphics (including the cover art) appear in the 2023 publication Media Engagement.

The Ultimate TV Show

I was one of four research assistants for Professor Annette Hill on The Ultimate TV Show research project, a research collaboration with the Swedish public relations company Wenderfalck. We conducted qualitative interviews both Generation Z and Millennial audiences from 2019 to 2020 in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.
