Biography

Jhonattan is a teacher, researcher, and leader with years of experience across various settings. Currently, he serves as an elementary school teacher in Calgary, Canada. Additionally, Jhonattan Bello is an active researcher, focusing on the development of resilience in higher education at the University of Calgary. His research interests span the field of education, with a particular emphasis on resilience, leadership, critical thinking, and TESOL.

As an entrepreneur, Jhonattan has demonstrated his capabilities by successfully founding and leading various ventures. Notable among these are Corporate Teaching, Tutochild and Xkulls Printing Co. Furthermore, he holds the position of Head of Corporate Teaching, a Colombian-based company dedicated to providing teaching, learning, and tutoring services worldwide. 

Professional & Community Affiliations

Jhonattan collaborates with professional and community organizations in several domains. His involvement extends to higher education, second language teaching (TESOL), and community support. As a scholar member of The Graduate College, he actively contributes to the Service Committee. Additionally, Jhonattan is affiliated with the Foundation for Critical Thinking, where he explores innovative approaches to fostering critical thinking skills in K-12 classrooms.

Jhonattan Bello’s research centered around promoting resilience among post-secondary students. His case study specifically targeted undergraduate students who struggle with challenges such as heavy workloads, stress, program withdrawals, and substance use disorders. Through his investigation, Jhonattan identified key strategies employed by instructors to foster resilience in their students as follow:

  • Creating a safe and trusting environment.
  • Focusing on meaningful goals.
  • Clarifying expectations.
  • Modeling flexible thinking.
  • Sharing relevant stories.
