Biography

Dr. Jacqueline McMillan is a Geriatrician and Clinician Scientist. She completed her Medical Degree at the University of British Columbia, followed by Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine training at the University of Calgary. Dr. McMillan completed the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Clinical Investigator Program and Master of Community Health Sciences, Health Services Research at the University of Calgary.

Her research focusses on older adults, with a specific focus on older adults with HIV. Particular areas of research interest for Dr. McMillan include frailty, polypharmacy, dementia, falls, and loneliness in older adults. 

She is the site lead of the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging https://www.clsa-elcv.ca/  The CLSA s a large, national, long-term study of more than 50,000 individuals who were between the ages of 45 and 85 when recruited. These participants will be followed until 2033 or death. The aim of the CLSA is to find ways to help us live long and live well, and understand why some people age in healthy fashion while others do not. Calgary is one of 11 national Data Collection Sites for the CLSA.

Dr. McMillan is the associate Program Director of the University of Calgary Clinician Investigator Program. The CIP is an accredited program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The CIP assists in the career development of clinician investigators in Canada. The program provides a formal postgraduate medical education pathway through integrated, structured, and rigorous research training. The training requires a minimum of two years of research intensive training that involves enrolment in a graduate degree program (graduate stream), to complete a thesis or equivalent, or in a postdoctoral fellowship program if the trainee already has a graduate degree (postdoctoral stream).
