Biography
After obtaining her PhD in Nutrition and Biochemistry from the University in Bonn, Germany, Iris Kathol joined the University of Calgary as a Postdoctoral Fellow with a scholarship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
She worked in the departments of pharmacology and biochemistry as part of the 'Smooth Muscle Research Group' studying details of smooth muscle contraction by phosphorylation of the regulatory light chain subunit (LC20) of myosin in animal and cell models.
Iris is currently working as clinical research coordinator for Dr. Justyna Sarna coordinating clinical trials in Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease and Tourette's disorder.
She continues to manage Dr. Oury Monchi's research studies at the University of Calgary after his relocation to Montreal.
In addition, Iris is part of the Canadian Open Parkinson Network (C-OPN) as the Western Canada manager and part of the Calgary Parkinson Research Initiative (CaPRI). Her portfolio includes consultations with all sites of the national network on ethics-related issues, logistics of the blood draws and shipments, lead of the Province Representative Group and contributing her knowledge obtained during her years working with patients and patient partners in research studies.
