Biography

Dr. Ioana Nicolau is a research scientist and cancer epidemiologist in the Department of Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention Research (CEPR) at Cancer Care Alberta. Dr. Nicolau completed a PhD in Epidemiology at the University of Toronto, working closely with the HIV community to better understand the impact of cancer among people living with HIV. She then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute, University of Calgary, focusing on infection-related cancers and population-based approaches to cancer screening and prevention. Dr. Nicolau also served as a Senior Epidemiologist at the Canadian Cancer Society, where she co-led the Canadian Cancer Statistics Advisory Committee, and has contributed to national and provincial collaborative networks dedicated to advancing cancer control. She is passionate about using community-engaged and data-driven approaches to address inequities across the cancer continuum.

Summary of Research
