Biography

Greg is a Sessional Instructor at the University of Calgary and has been a lecturer since 2017/2018; he created an undergraduate and a graduate (MBA) variant of Haskayne's Project Finance course (FNCE 559 & FNCE 689) and has consistently received outstanding reviews from colleagues and students as to the innovativeness these courses and the integration and access to real-world situations.  Over the last 5 years, Greg has brought over 45 different guest speakers to Haskayne.  He continues to enjoy teaching both the undergraduate course and graduate level (MBA) course in Project Finance.

Outside of his teaching, he is a Partner in PwC’s Capital Projects & Infrastructure team and leads that team in Alberta. Greg holds multiple roles within the firm including PwC’s Energy Transition Leader for Canada and he is PwC Canada’s National Utilities sector leader for Deals; he is also a member of PwC’s Global Deals Origination platform.

He has over 18 years of experience advising both private and public companies on a wide range of corporate activities. He has worked in over fifteen countries and speaks Italian, Spanish, French and English fluently.  Greg has experience in deal structuring, modelling, financing, strategy and operational optimization. He is able to take leadership roles in a wide variety of contexts including on financings, corporate strategy, operational optimization, technical accounting issues, external reporting, process mapping, corporate controls and deal structuring/due diligence.

Greg previously worked with Trafigura, a leading commodity-trading firm in Geneva, Switzerland where amongst other responsibilities he was tasked with closing over USD 2.1 billion in project, revolving credit and acquisition debt-financings conducted by the Group in its downstream and midstream division across Central America, Africa, Europe and South-east Asia. Since returning to Canada, Greg has executed multiple large mandates for some of the largest Canadian pension funds as well as for Canadian corporates. 

Greg has deep expertise in midstream energy; specifically with respect to commodity trading entities and their related infrastructure & logistics needs. He has also developed a strong background in cleantech; in particular with reference to Green Fuels (Ethanol & Biodiesel) as well as with the Biogas, Geothermal, Onshore and Offshore wind sectors.   His areas of professional focus are:

o   Midcap Infrastructure financing (Debt & Equity)

o   Private Infrastructure Strategies

o   Industry focused projects: Commodity Trading (Energy, Agriculture)

o   Emerging market & origination strategies 

Greg is a Chartered Accountant, a Chartered Business Valuator, a graduate of McGill University in Montreal, Quebec and holds a Masters degree in International Trading, Commodity Finance and Shipping from the University of Geneva, in Switzerland.

Outside of the office, Greg is also an avid skier and an aviation enthusiast holding multiple pilot licenses. Greg devotes considerable time to his community and in that regard is passionate about contributing on economic development and education-related issues (including as a Board Member for the Banff Centre).
