Biography

Grace Baruta is the Platform Manager of the Human Organoid Innovation Hub (HOIH) within the Snyder Institute at the University of Calgary. Her work focuses on exploring mouse and human organoid development, and she is passionate about testing the latest in organoid innovation and technology. Her goal is to drive cutting edge research utilizing organoid systems and relay these skills to the research community.

Grace received her MSc in 2017, specializing in pharmacology. She went on to receive her PhD in the field of gastrointestinal sciences within Dr. Simon Hirota’s lab at the University of Calgary. Her PhD focused on exploring host-pathogen interactions using various organoid systems, and she utilized a novel 2D organoid system to better understand the interactions of Mycobacterium paratuberculosis in initial host invasion. In her current position, she continues to apply her skillset from her PhD, with a mission to use patient tissue to drive precision medicine.
