Biography

Gerry Straathof is a PHd student in the Department of Anthropology and Archeology at the University of Calgary. He grew up in rural Alberta, on farms and acreages in Lac La Biche, Ponoka and Camrose. HIs affinity to the landscape and the homesteads, ghost towns and abandoned industrial spaces comes from decades of travelling the roads in the province. He works with members of the Energy Stories Lab to create augmented reality applications to share narratives of the oilfields. Gerry uses creative research to find alternative ways to share the results of his research using multiple media resources, including digital, photographic and sculptural formats. He considers himself a transdisciplinary researcher.
