Biography

Dr. Gavin McCormack holds a faculty appointment as an Associate Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences, Cumming School of Medicine (University of Calgary, Canada), and is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Planning, Landscape and Architecture (SAPL) and in the Faculty of Kinesiology. Gavin is also an Adjunct Researcher in the Faculty of Sports Sciences at Waseda University (Japan). Since 2014, he has served as an Associate Scientific Editor for the Public Health Agency of Canada’s flagship journal “Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention in Canada”. Gavin was recognized in Avenue Magazine's Top 40 Under 40 class of 2014.

Gavin has an MSc in Sports Science (Exercise Physiology specialization) from Edith Cowan University (Western Australia) and PhD specializing in Public Health from the University of Western Australia. His research program is in the field of population and public health and focuses primarily on investigating the links between urban design and built environment interventions and health outcomes including physical activity, diet, sedentary behaviour, weight status, and health-related fitness.
