The stories of retired male school teachers, now teaching education students at various universities

The inquiry explores the experiences of a small group of men, formally school teachers and administrators, now teaching pre-service teachers at various universities in Calgary. The purpose of this study is to listen to stories of male sessional instructors who teach pre-service teachers after leaving full time teaching with their former school boards. My previous research focused on the lived experiences of male elementary teachers. Male teachers are valued and vulnerable and live complex lives as they negotiate conflicting expectations of them as MALE teachers. Now I am teaching at the university, and I am thinking about how my colleagues (and I) experience instructing adults. I am exploring the influence of the context (of the workplace) on our identities as teachers.
